Stethoscope Cleaning & Sterilization: A Comprehensive Guide
Stethoscopes are medical instruments used to listen to heartbeats and other sounds the human body makes. They need to be sterilized after each use to prevent the spread of bacteria and germs between patients. You shouldn't immerse the instrument when cleaning it, but rather wipe it down. It's also advisable to keep it away from extreme temperatures to prolong its life and keep it in peak operating condition.Things You'll Need
- 70 percent isopropyl alcohol wipes
- Antibacterial soap
- Water
Instructions
Remove the ear tips from the stethoscope.
Mix together a cup of one-fifth antibacterial soap and four-fifths water. Put the ear tips into this solution and allow them to sit for five minutes.
Remove the ear tips and rinse them off. Allow time for them to dry.
Wipe all areas of the stethoscope with 70 percent isopropyl alcohol wipes.
Put the ear tips back on the stethoscope when they are completely dry.
