How to Burn Wood in a Vogelzang
Vogelzang is a brand of wood-burning stoves. As the cost of fossil fuel has risen, especially in areas where wood is a plentiful resource, these and other types of wood-burning stoves have gone up in popularity as an alternative home-heating method. Properly using a Vogelzang isn't hard, but it pays to be very careful for fire safety reasons.Things You'll Need
- Wood
Instructions
Check the stove to be sure that it's cleaned out (ashes swept out) and that the joints are solid. Leaking joints will let out heat, and potentially smoke, sparks and flame as well, so be sure to check thoroughly. Make sure that the flue is open, especially if the stove is connected to an existing fireplace.
Put the wood into the stove. Make sure that the wood is cut to lengths appropriate for your particular model of Vogelzang, and fill it according to your model's requirements listed in the owner's manual. For safety reasons, don't fill the area more than one-third to one-half full with wood.
Light the stove. Once you're sure it's going, close the door and lock it. The stove will now burn like a fireplace would, giving off heat and piping the smoke out the existing chimney.
