Understanding Agoraphobia: Fear of Open Spaces and Nighttime Anxiety
The fear of dark, large, open spaces, often referred to as agoraphobia, is a common anxiety disorder. Agoraphobia is characterized by intense fear or anxiety triggered by situations where escape or help might be difficult if panic occurs. These situations may include being in wide-open spaces, such as fields, parks, or even closed-down amusement parks at night.
While agoraphobia commonly involves the anxiety of being trapped in large open areas, it can also extend to other situations, such as being in crowded places or using public transportation. The underlying factor is the fear of being unable to escape or receive assistance in case of an anxiety attack or emergency.
