Eliminate Plastic Odor from New Water Jugs: A Simple Guide
Sports water bottles have a potent plastic smell that affects the taste of your water. This new plastic odor typically dissipates after they have been washed a few times. If your jug's water is unbearable, a thorough cleaning eliminates the unpleasant taste without waiting for it to naturally go away. Once removed, the water jug will no longer smell new but it does require regular cleaning because of the porous nature of the plastic.Things You'll Need
- 1 teaspoon chlorine bleach
- 1 teaspoon baking soda
- 1 tablespoon vinegar (optional)
- Hot water
Instructions
Pour 1 teaspoon of bleach into the jug and mix in 1 teaspoon of baking soda.
Fill the water jug with tap water and secure the top on the jug. Shake the bottle vigorously to dissolve the baking soda and thoroughly mix the cleaning products.
Leave the jug filled with the cleaning solution overnight and pour out the cleaning solution the following day.
Rinse out the jug with running hot water to remove all traces of the bleach and baking soda.
Leave the top off of the jug and air-dry the jug by letting it sit out overnight.
