Saddleback Carry: Technique & How to Safely Transport an Injured Person
Saddleback Carry:This carry is ideal for moving an injured person uphill or over long distances
- Place the injured person between the caregiver’s shoulders with the person’s legs wrapped around the caregiver’s waist.
- Pass one arm around the injured person’s body and over the opposite shoulder.
- Use your other arm to support the person’s hips.
Alternative Saddleback Carry:
An older child and smaller person can be carried using a modified saddleback carry.
1. Start with the injured person's legs around your waist and face to the ground.
1. Bring their arms straight up so you can lift them in a way that their chest faces you as you sit back.
1. Secure their arms on your neck/shoulders, bend your elbows, and hold them under the hips to maintain the sitting position
