First Aid Diagnosis: Understanding Symptoms, Signs, and Injury Mechanisms
A diagnosis in first aid is based on three main things:
1. Symptoms: These are the patient's subjective feelings, such as pain, nausea, or dizziness.
2. Signs: These are objective findings that can be observed by the first aider, such as a rash, swelling, or bleeding.
3. Mechanism of injury: This is the sequence of events that led to the patient's symptoms and signs.
By considering all three of these factors, the first aider can develop a working diagnosis and provide appropriate treatment.
