First Aid Essentials: The 3 C's and Essential Steps
Remember the Three C's:
1. Check for safety before you approach the victim.
2. Call 911 or the local emergency number.
3. Care for the victim until medical help arrives.
Other important things to remember:
- Remain calm and reassuring.
- Stay with the victim until medical help arrives.
- Do not move or try to reposition the victim unless necessary to do so to provide adequate care or prevent further injury.
- Control any bleeding by applying direct pressure to the wound.
- If the victim is not breathing, start CPR immediately.
- If the victim is in shock, elevate their legs and keep them warm.
- Do not give the victim anything to eat or drink unless instructed to do so by medical personnel.
