Disinfecting Your Arkray Glucometer: A Step-by-Step Guide
Arkray is a global, leading manufacturer of clinical chemistry and diabetes care products. It offers Glucocard and Assure Glucometers to test the blood glucose level of people with diabetes. Testing is important for diabetic patients to help maintain an adequate glucose level. Reduce the risk of infection by disinfecting your glucometer after each use by following manufacturer and U.S. Centers for Disease Control guidelines.Things You'll Need
- 1 ml bleach
- 9 ml water
- Paper towels
- Plastic or latex gloves
Instructions
Mix the water and bleach to create the disinfectant solution. The solution should contain 1 ml of household bleach and 9 ml of water.
Put on your gloves. Dampen a paper towel with the solution---do not soak the towel---and wipe the front and back of the meter down. Do not clean inside the battery compartment, test strip port or the code chip port because this will damage the meter.
Spray the meter with Steris Coverage Spray HB by Fisher Scientific or wipe it down using Sani-Cloth HB Germicidal Disposal Wipe by PDI if you would rather not use bleach. These items can be purchased from pharmacies or from an online medical supply store such as Deal Med Medical Supplies.
