Asbestos Removal: When is It Required & What to Do?
Asbestos must be removed from buildings or structures when it is:- Damaged or friable, meaning it can easily be broken into small particles and become airborne.
- Located in an area where it can be disturbed or damaged, such as a ceiling tile that is frequently bumped or a pipe insulation that is near a doorway.
- Present in certain types of building materials, such as popcorn ceiling, vinyl floor tiles, and asbestos-cement shingles.
In general, asbestos should be removed by a licensed asbestos contractor who is trained and experienced in the safe handling and removal of asbestos-containing materials.
