BLS Certification: CPR & First Aid Training - American Heart Association
Basic Life Support (BLS)
The American Heart Association (AHA) offers a variety of CPR and first aid classes, including Basic Life Support (BLS). BLS is the most common type of first aid class and is appropriate for laypeople who want to learn how to respond to common emergencies, such as heart attacks, strokes, and choking.
BLS courses typically cover the following topics:
* How to recognize a heart attack, stroke, and other medical emergencies
* How to perform CPR
* How to use an automated external defibrillator (AED)
* First aid for bleeding, burns, and other injuries
BLS courses are typically offered at community centers, hospitals, and other public locations. The cost of a BLS course varies, but is typically around $50-$75.
BLS certification is valid for two years. To maintain your certification, you must take a recertification course every two years.
