These manikins can travel from schools to nursing homes to businesses to hospitals, and all of the traveling can cause the manikin to fall into disrepair. Commonly, manikins in such condition simply need a good cleaning.

  Disassemble the CPR manikin by removing the chest piece. Remove and discard the disposable lung insert and remove the mouth and nose pieces. The head can be removed by pulling the cotter pin from the rod and pulling out the rod. At this point, you can take the head and airway out of the chest.

  Clean the manikin and all pieces with mild soap and water. Rinse the manikin thoroughly and dry it completely.

  Reassemble the manikin by securing the ball valve in the head. Insert the one-way valve into the top of the airway and into the open part of the ball valve.

  Thread the feed tube down the hole in the neck. Reattach the head with a clevis pin and cotter pin. Attach the lungs to the airway and reattach the chest.
