Conquer Writer's Block: Proven Strategies for Creative Flow
Every writer or student has experienced the dreaded mental block. A mental block can take many forms. Writers lose their inspiration while students forget a word for an essay. You can conjure almost any word but the one needed to finish the sentence. Instead of suffering in frustration, learn to overcome a mental block and write with ease.
Instructions
Relax for a few minutes. Turn away from the computer and close your eyes. Play quiet music and take some deep breaths. Sometimes you only need a break to alleviate a mental block.
Exercise to overcome the mental block. Take a walk or jump rope. Exercise creates additional blood flow which improves brain function.
Avoid trying to suppress a similar word if you are having difficulty in remembering a word or phrase. If you are trying to think of "elegant" and the only word that comes to mind is "elephant," do not try to avoid thinking of elephants. Avoiding a particular word or phrase will only reinforce the mental block. Instead write down every word that comes to mind. Letting the words flow may allow the block to dissipate.
