How do you become a forensic psychiatrist?
Psychiatrist:- Earn a bachelor's degree in science or psychology.
- Complete four years of medical school and get an M.D. degree.
- Take the United States Medical Licensing Examination (USMLE) Step 1.
- Complete a four-year residency in psychiatry.
- Take the USMLE Step 3 and become board certified by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology.
Forensic Psychiatrist:
- Earn a bachelor's degree in psychology or a related field.
- Attend medical school and earn an M.D. degree.
- Complete a four-year accredited residency in psychiatry.
- Complete fellowship training in forensic psychiatry.
- Sit for forensic boards, including the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology and the American Academy of Psychiatry and the Law.
