How to File a Complaint Against a Psychologist
Psychologists must be licensed by the state in which they practice, and they must adhere to certain standards of practice. You can file a complaint with the state Board of Psychology for a number of things, such as psychologists who have sexual contact with patients, violate patient confidentiality or behave in unprofessional or unethical ways toward patients. The Board of Psychology also takes complaints against those practicing psychology without the appropriate license.
Instructions
Contact the Board of Psychology in the state where the psychologist practices. Most boards have forms to fill out to file a complaint, but some may want you to just provide something in writing.
Complete the form fully or provide all requested information. Make sure you provide the full name and address of the psychologist against whom you wish to file a complaint. Explain the complaint in detail. You do not have to provide your name and can file your complaint anonymously if you prefer; however, the board may have difficulty investigating your complaint if the investigator cannot contact you.
Attach copies of any medical records or other documents that support your complaint. Keep your originals, though; send copies only.
