Understanding Wet Dreams: Causes, Frequency & What to Expect
Wet dreaming, also known as nocturnal emission, refers to the involuntary release of semen during sleep. It usually happens during the rapid eye movement (REM) stage of sleep, which is associated with dreaming.
Wet dreams are a normal part of male sexual development and are not a cause for concern. They are most common during adolescence but can occur at any age.
The frequency of wet dreams can vary from person to person and may increase during times of heightened sexual activity or decreased sexual outlet. Certain medical conditions, such as low testosterone levels or spinal cord injuries, can also contribute to wet dreams.
