How to Study Math to Increase Your IQ
Math ability on an IQ test is a measure of working memory and sustained attention rather than pure math achievement. This is because an IQ test is different from an achievement test in that it seeks to measure aptitude rather than a specific skill set. For instance, on the Wechsler Adult Intelligence Test, which a widely used IQ test, arithmetic is used to make up the Working Memory Index. So, in order to study math to increase IQ, it is important to exercise working memory and complex attention.Things You'll Need
- Deck of Cards
- Paper and Pencil
- Stop Watch
- Graph Paper
Instructions
Numerical Manipulation
Shuffle a deck of cards
Lay two cards face down
Flip cards and view them for 5 seconds
Cover them and record the cards (numbers only)
Move the cards to the side
Repeat, adding a card to the sequence each time
Engage in advanced numerical manipulation
Repeat the above steps with new cards
Record the sequence of cards backward
Add a mental arithmetic component
Choose two cards and lay them in front of you
Flip them and view for 5 seconds
Cover the cards and add the numbers in your head
Record response
Repeat, adding a card to the sequence each time
Analyze results
Use the graph paper to record correct sequence length for cards (forward, backward and addition)
Compare the values to find strengths and weaknesses
Practice daily in order to improve areas of weakness
