DSM-5: Cultural Considerations in Mental Health Diagnosis

The fifth edition of the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders (DSM-5) has placed the greatest emphasis on weighing cultural factors when assessing abnormal behavior. It includes updated cultural considerations for each disorder, a new culturally informed diagnostic interview, and a cultural formulation interview to help clinicians better understand the cultural context of a patient's symptoms and experiences.
