How to Reduce Anxiety Symptoms
Most people feel some degree of anxiety at one time or another during their lifetime. Occasional anxiety is normal; however, constant anxiety may indicate that an individual is suffering from generalized anxiety disorder (GAD). Individuals with occasional anxiety or continual anxiety can take steps to reduce anxiety symptoms.
Instructions
Rest enough each night. Lack of sleep may cause anxiety to worsen.
Avoid caffeine. According to the Mayo Clinic, consuming caffeine can increase anxiety symptoms.
Quit smoking cigarettes or using tobacco products. The Mayo Clinic advises that nicotine can worsen anxiety as well.
Seek support from family, friends or others with anxiety. Many online communities exist that allow individuals to discuss anxiety issues (see Resources).
Exercise regularly. Exercise--especially aerobic exercise--may also help to quell anxiety symptoms.
