How to Identify Positive Life Coping Skills
Undesirable situations can spring up quite suddenly. Whether they remain for a short time or a lifetime, it is essential to develop coping skills, or ways in which you emotionally deal with a situation. But be careful. These skills can sometimes do more harm than good. Negative coping skills can introduce a host of new problems, and leave you emotionally distraught. Here are some ways to implement positive coping skills during troubling times.
Instructions
Confront the problem. Utilize coping skills that give you a greater understanding of the situation at hand. Therapy, meditation and contemplative thought will allow you to effectively work through your issue.
Lean on those around you. Don't shy away from loved ones during difficult times. Spending time with family and friends will give you a sense of support and well-being.
Stay in good health. Eat right, exercise and get plenty of fresh air to elevate your state of mind.
Focus on the bigger picture. Ask yourself, is what I'm doing good for me in the long term? If the answer is no, chances are it is a negative coping skill. Find a new way to deal with the situation that will provide benefits in the present and future.
