RN Education: How Long Does it Take to Become a Registered Nurse?

It typically takes about two to four years to become a Registered Nurse (RN) in the United States. The actual length of time will depend on the type of nursing program you choose. There are three main types of nursing programs:

* Diploma programs: These programs are typically three years long and are offered by hospitals or other healthcare facilities.

* Associate degree programs: These programs are typically two years long and are offered by community colleges.

* Baccalaureate degree programs: These programs are typically four years long and are offered by colleges and universities.

After completing a nursing program, you must pass the NCLEX-RN exam in order to become a licensed RN. The NCLEX-RN is a national standardized exam that tests your knowledge of nursing. Once you have passed the NCLEX-RN, you will be able to practice as a registered nurse.
