Nursing Education Timeline: How Long Does It Take to Become a Nurse?

Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN)
• Diploma program: typically 1 year
• Associate degree program: typically 2 years
Registered Nurse (RN)
• Associate degree program: typically 2 years
• Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) program: typically 4 years
Master of Science in Nursing (MSN)
• Typically 2 years
A master's degree in nursing is also required for some roles, such as nurse practitioner or nurse midwife.
