What work does a SANE nurse do?
Sexual Assault Nurse Examiners (SANEs) provide comprehensive care to victims of sexual assault. This includes:
- Conducting forensic exams, which involve collecting evidence from the victim's body in a way that preserves it for use in a criminal investigation.
- Providing medical care, such as treating injuries and prescribing medication to prevent infection.
- Offering emotional support and crisis intervention to help victims cope with the trauma of sexual assault.
- Coordinating with law enforcement and other agencies to ensure that victims' rights are protected and that the perpetrators of sexual assault are brought to justice.
SANEs play a vital role in the care of victims of sexual assault, and their work helps to ensure that these victims receive the justice they deserve.
