Where is the town of Dura located?

The town of Dura is located in Dura Europos, Syria. It is situated on the western bank of the Euphrates River, approximately 10 kilometers east of the modern town of Salihiyah. Dura was an important trading center during the Hellenistic, Roman, and Sassanian periods. The ruins of the ancient city are relatively well-preserved, and include the remains of temples, houses, churches, and other structures.
