How Do I Use Ceiling Lifts?

Ceiling lifts are permanently attached to the ceiling and are used to assist nurses when moving and treating patients. Patients in wheelchairs and those with restricted movement benefit from the ceiling lift because it is able to lift them onto the hospital bed or chair for treatment. Patients who have difficulty hoisting onto beds or using their hands can be helped onto the bed by a nurse using the ceiling lift.

  Insert the sling under the backside of patient in the wheelchair. You may have to gently lift the patient to get the sling firmly placed under the patient.

  Secure the sling to the hooks on the ceiling lift.

  Press the "Up" button on the lift to activate the lift. The lift will raise the patient from the wheelchair.

  Guide the patient by gently placing your hand on his back and pushing the hoist bar with the other hand. Use both hands to hold the patient in the right position on the hospital bed or chair.

  Press the "Down" button to lower the lift. Unhook the sling from the lift and press the "Up" button to move the lift out of the way of the patient.
