Diethylstilbestrol (DES): Understanding the Risks and History

DES stands for diethylstilbestrol, a synthetic estrogen that was once widely prescribed to pregnant women to prevent miscarriage and other complications. However, it was later found to have serious side effects, including an increased risk of vaginal cancer in the daughters of women who took it. DES is no longer prescribed for this purpose.
