Pennsylvania Medicaid Residency Requirements & Eligibility

Pennsylvania Medicaid has simple residency requirements, but the program has additional eligibility criteria. All Medicaid programs have income limits that must be met and require applicants to have a Social Security number. Some programs set asset limits and some have age requirements. Applicants must prove their identity with an approved photo ID, such as a state-issued driver's license or identification card.
  1. Residency

    • Applicants for Pennsylvania Medicaid must be a resident the state at the time of application for their application to be approved.

    Time

    • There is no requirement for how long a person must live in Pennsylvania before they apply for medical assistance. Theoretically, they could move to Pennsylvania and apply for medical assistance the very next day.

    Citizenship

    • To receive Pennsylvania Medicaid, an applicant should be a U.S. citizen. Other residents of the U.S. and the state of Pennsylvania who may be approved are refugees and some aliens who were admitted lawfully into the country.
