Society for Creative Anachronism (SCA): Living History, Arts, and Community

The SCA is a global nonprofit dedicated to researching and recreating pre-17th century cultures through hands-on participation.

Core Activities

1. Historical Reenactment & Education: Events, demos, classes on medieval/Renaissance life.
2. Arts & Sciences: Blacksmithing, leatherwork, woodworking, fiber arts, calligraphy, illumination, cooking, brewing, herbalism. Competitions (A&S fairs).
3. Armored Combat: Full-contact rattan weapon fighting with authentic armor. Marshaled for safety. Tournaments, wars (Pennsic, Estrella).
4. Rapier Combat: Fencing with steel blades (schlager, epee). Cut & thrust, period techniques.
5. Archery & Thrown Weapons: Period bows, crossbows, axes, knives, spears.
6. Equestrian: Jousting, mounted games, cavalry drills.
7. Costuming (Garb): Research-based clothing; workshops, fashion shows, tailoring guilds.
8. Feasts & Revels: Period recipes, service, entertainment (bardic, dance, theater).
9. Bardic Arts: Storytelling, poetry, singing, instrumental music, theater. Bardic circles, competitions.
10. Heraldry: Personal device (coat of arms), name registration, ceremony.
11. Youth Programs: Page school, youth combat, A&S, family camping.
12. Service & Leadership: Officers (seneschal, herald, marshal, chatelaine) run local groups (shires, cantons, baronies) within kingdoms.

• Peerage orders (Knight, Laurel, Pelican, Master of Defense) recognize mastery.
• Global Known World: 20 kingdoms across US, Canada, Europe, Asia, Australia.
