Hospital CNA Roles: Responsibilities & Duties Explained
Registered Nurses (RNs):
- Provide direct patient care, including administering medications, monitoring vital signs, and providing emotional support.
- Collaborate with physicians and other healthcare professionals to develop and implement patient care plans.
- Educate patients and their families about their conditions and treatments.
- Manage nursing teams and delegate tasks to unlicensed assistive personnel.
Licensed Practical Nurses (LPNs):
- Provide basic patient care, such as taking vital signs, administering medications, and changing dressings.
- Assist RNs with more complex tasks, such as administering IVs and monitoring patients in critical condition.
- Educate patients and their families about their conditions and treatments.
Certified Nursing Assistants (CNAs):
- Provide basic patient care, such as bathing, dressing, and feeding.
- Help patients with activities of daily living, such as using the bathroom and getting out of bed.
- Transport patients to and from appointments and procedures.
