As of 2019, there were 5,342 hospice programs operating in the United States, according to the National Hospice and Palliative Care Organization. This number includes traditional Medicare-certified hospice programs, non-Medicare certified hospices, community-based palliative care programs, and other types of supportive services for patients with serious illness.
