How to Find a Certified Home Health Aide
When age or illness begin to affect how well you can manage your own home, some would consign you to a nursing home. A home health aide can help you maintain your independence. Some states have no requirements for certification or licensure of home health aides, but some prefer the confidence in knowledge that certification brings. Finding a certified health aide is possible with just a little effort.
Instructions
Contact your insurance provider, if you have one. If home health aid is covered by your policy, the insurance company can provide you with a list of providers in your area.
Use your phone book to find various community agencies that serve the elderly or disabled, such as community health centers or your local agency on aging. Many of these agencies and centers can provide you with a list of home health aide agencies or home health aides who work independently.
Search online for local home health aide agencies in your area. Many will have websites that provide information about their home health aides and level of certification.
Contact several of the agencies you have either been referred to by the agency on aging or found online. Ask them if their home health aides are certified, and by which governing body.
