Ohio Home Care Provider Record Retention Requirements: A 6-Year Guide
Providers normally must maintain records for a period of six years from the time they receive payment. However, providers may be required to retain records for a longer period if they are audited.-
Retain for Six Years
-
The State of Ohio requires providers that participate in the Home Care Program to comply with a number of provisions. Among these is a requirement to retain records for a period of six years.
Retain Records from Date of Payment
-
Ohio requires the provider to maintain records starting on the day of payment, not when the service was actually provided.
Audits
-
If the provider is audited, the audited records must be retained until the audit is fully completed. These records must be retained even if the six-year retention period has already expired.
