CMH2O in Medicine: Understanding Urine Output & Hydration
CMH2O stands for cubic meters of water. It is a unit of volume, used to measure the amount of water contained in a given space. In medical terms, CMH2O is commonly used to measure the volume of water lost from the body through urine output. Urine output is an important indicator of renal function and hydration status. Low urine output, or _oliguria_, can be a sign of kidney dysfunction or dehydration. High urine output, or _polyuria_, can be caused by diabetes, diuretic medications, or excessive fluid intake.
CMH2O is also sometimes used to measure the volume of water contained in other bodily fluids, such as cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) or pleural effusion.
