How to Register the NPI Number for California Blue Cross
As insurance carriers have moved from Tax ID or Social Security Numbers to NPI (National Provider Identity) numbers there has been much confusion and updating of computer records. California Blue Cross Blue Shield now requires all medical providers to register their NPI number and use that number in all insurance claims submitted.
Instructions
Obtain your NPI number from the National Plan &Provider Enumeration System. If you do not have an NPI number, you can register for one from this agency.
Contact California Blue Cross for any forms you are required to submit. If you are registering NPIs for multiple providers from the same practice or facility, California Blue Cross will provide you with a standardized Excel spreadsheet. Call 800-480-1221 to request the spreadsheets to register multiple providers.
Submit your NPI registration via fax or U.S. Mail. Include your NPI number, Tax ID number and contact information in case there are any questions.
