Understanding TRICARE Prime Plus: Benefits, Eligibility & More

Members of the military, and their families, are entitled to health care coverage under the TRICARE system. TRICARE Plus is one of the health care options available to beneficiaries of military members.

Exceptions

• TRICARE Plus is not a health care plan, but an option that can be added to a health care plan. Not all military training facilities participate in TRICARE Plus. The program does not guarantee access to specialty care at a military training facility.

Eligibility

• Military treatment facilities can limit TRICARE Plus enrollment to certain members or beneficiaries. TRICARE beneficiaries who have a civilian HMO, Medicare HMO, or TRICARE Prime, are not eligible. However, TRICARE for Life recipients with Medicare Plan B are eligible.
