Medicare Eligibility: Determine If You Qualify for Coverage
Medicare is a low-cost health insurance program offered to senior citizens in the United States. This government-administered program also provides residency-training programs to physicians. You will gain automatic enrollment if you are 65 years or older and receive Social Security benefits. Automatic eligibility includes coverage of both parts A and parts B. You can contact the Social Security office to find out if you have Medicare coverage.
Instructions
Contact the Social Security office at 800-772-1213. Follow the prompts to direct you to customer service.
Ask the representative if you have Medicare coverage. Provide your full name, street address, home telephone number and your Social Security number.
Enroll in Medicare if you do not have coverage. If you do have coverage but do not have a Medicare card, ask the representative to send you one.
Ask what kind of coverage you have. The representative will tell you if you receive part A, B, C or D. Inform the representative if you want to enroll in any of the other parts.
