How to Find Assistance for the Injured Who Are Uninsured
According to "The New York Times," there are tens of millions of Americans without insurance, often for extended periods. Accidents can happen to anyone but the situation is much worse for those without health insurance. What is an injured and uninsured person to do? Most likely they will not be able to afford the expense of seeking medical treatment. This may prevent some people from seeking assistance. Fortunately, there are options available to provide help.
Instructions
Go to the emergency room. This option can be costly. However, if uninsured patients cannot afford their treatment, the hospital can offer financial assistance. The bill can be subsidized or completely written off depending on financial circumstances or the government may subsidize the bill through state Medicaid programs. Representatives from the hospital's billing department can point you in the right direction.
Find a community health center or clinic. These centers provide services for free or for reduced cost depending on your income and situation. You can find local centers by entering your address in the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services website.
Call your local health bureau. Most health bureaus provide clinical care to residents on an outpatient basis. These clinics provide essential health services to those who cannot afford private care.
Contact an attorney. If you were injured in a car accident, a slip-and-fall or some other type of accident resulting in injury someone else may be liable. If another party was involved, their insurance company may be liable for your medical treatment.
