Lactated Ringer's solution is given to patients to help replace fluid that has been lost by the body. Aggressive fluid replacement is sometimes necessary due to injury or illness in patients. This solution looks like water, but it contains several additives that are beneficial to the human body.

Potassium Chloride and Calcium Chloride

• Thirty milligrams of potassium chloride and 20 milligrams of calcium chloride are additives in 100 milliliters of LR.

Hydrochloric Acid and Hydroxide

• LR sometimes contains hydrochloric acid and hydroxide, which adjusts your PH level. The PH level measures the amount of acidity in your body, which could be thrown out of balance with certain ailments.
