Beakers: Uses, Types & Applications in Science

A beaker is a cylindrical container with flat sides most often made of glass, although beakers can also be made of plastic or metal. It has a small lip for pouring and can be manufactured in a variety of different sizes. Beakers are used in scientific laboratories for research, analysis and experimentation as well as in teaching science.

• Beakers can be used to prepare liquids and compounds by stirring, mixing or pouring them into or out of another container.

• A beaker can be used as a vessel to contain the elements of a chemical reaction or other process, such as crystallization.
