Understanding and Using Vernier Height Gauges: A Comprehensive Guide

Vernier height gauges are commonly used in health offices to measure the patients' heights. A vernier height gauge consists of three major parts: the main plate, vernier plate and clamp. The main plate is stationary and is attached to the base. The vernier plate slides up and down the main plate and is locked into place by the clamp. A user can read the measurement by using the marks along both plates.

  Adjust the vernier plate to the top of the object and clamp into place.

  Find the first mark on the master plate that is below the zero mark on the vernier plate. This is the first portion of the height value.

  Locate the mark on the vernier plate that best lines up with a mark on the main plate. This is the second portion of the height value.

  Add the measurements to calculate the total height of the object.
