How to Filter Amiodarone
Amiodarone is a drug used to treat serious irregular heart rhythm. Although you can take it orally, a doctor may prescribe amiodarone to be given intravenously. You must filter amiodarone if it is prescribed in any other concentration than 900mg per 500ml. Using an in-line filter with amiodarone prevents microorganisms from entering the body. The filter also acts to prevent precipitates from the drug getting into the bloodstream. Unless you are trained in administering drugs intravenously, do not attempt to filter amiodarone.Things You'll Need
- In-line intravenous filter
Instructions
Hang the amiodarone intravenous medication bag on the I.V. stand.
