Sprintec is a prescription birth control pill containing ethinyl estradiol and norgestimate, used to prevent ovulation. The more common brand names for this medication are Ortho Cyclen, Ortho Tri-Cyclen and TriNessa.-

Sprintec is prescribed to prevent pregnancy by altering the quality of a woman's uterine lining and cervical mucus, and preventing the release of an egg. In some cases, Sprintec is prescribed to treat severe cases of acne.
Precautions

Tell your doctor if you have diabetes, high blood pressure or a history of depression. Sprintec can cause birth defects, so ensure you are not pregnant before starting this medication.
Side Effects

As with any prescription medication, some serious side effects may occur such as sudden weakness on one side of the body, chest pain or nausea. Milder side effects may include breast pain, darkening of the skin on the face and increased hair growth.
Drug Interactions

Sprintec may interact with other medications or drugs, increasing your chances of pregnancy. These can include antibiotics, St. John's wort and seizure medications.
