Global Illiteracy Among Women: Statistics & Challenges

As of 2022, approximately 621 million women worldwide are illiterate, according to the UNESCO Institute for Statistics. This means that almost two out of every five women in the world are unable to read or write. While there has been significant progress in reducing the global illiteracy rate in recent decades, women still face significant challenges in accessing education and literacy opportunities, particularly in developing countries and rural areas.
