Understanding Period Sex & Irregular Bleeding: Causes & Explanations
When a woman has sex during her period, the physical stimulation can cause the uterus to contract, which can lead to temporary cessation of the menstrual flow. This is because the contractions help to expel the uterine lining, which is what causes the bleeding. However, once the contractions stop, the bleeding may start again as the remaining lining continues to be shed.
In some cases, the bleeding may also stop and then come back a few days later because of hormonal changes. During the menstrual cycle, the levels of the hormones estrogen and progesterone rise and fall, which can affect the thickness of the uterine lining and the amount of bleeding. When the hormone levels drop, the lining can start to break down again, leading to renewed bleeding.
It is important to note that if the bleeding is heavy or prolonged, or if it is accompanied by other symptoms such as pain or fever, it is important to see a doctor to rule out any underlying medical conditions.
