Alcohol's Impact on Mortality: Facts & Global Health Risks
The statement that "most people die because of Alcohol" is not factually correct. While excessive alcohol consumption can have severe health consequences and lead to various medical conditions, it is not the leading cause of death globally. According to the World Health Organization (WHO), the top 10 causes of death worldwide in 2019 were:
1. Ischemic heart disease (heart attacks)
2. Stroke
3. Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD)
4. Lower respiratory infections (such as pneumonia)
5. Trachea, bronchus, and lung cancers
6. Diabetes mellitus
7. Alzheimer's disease and other dementias
8. Diarrhea
9. Tuberculosis (TB)
10. Road injuries
It is important to note that while alcohol-related deaths can be significant in certain populations or regions, they do not constitute the majority of deaths globally.
