Secure Grip: How to Tape a Walking Cane for Comfort & Safety
Many people require canes to assist them in walking after surgery, injury or simply as they age and need additional support. Walking canes are frequently made from wood and metal, materials that may be slippery when they come into contact with the oil from your hands. Taping a cane not only adds comfort for the user but a firmer, safer grip.Things You'll Need
- Grip tape
- Scissors
Instructions
Wash your hands. Oil from your skin can compromise how well the tape adheres to the cane.
Attach 1 inch of the adhesive side of the tape to the end of the cane's handle.
Press the bottom end of the cane against one thigh so it is perpendicular to your body. Use your thigh as a stable surface to prop the cane on.
Hold the tape in one hand and the cane in the other. Press the tape down and wrap around the cane. Overlap the layers of tape by approximately 1/16 of an inch.
Cut the tape with a pair of scissors when you've fully taped the handle.
