How to Use Rubbing Alcohol for Your Face as Aftershave

Rubbing alcohol can act as an antiseptic for the skin, cleansing tiny cuts and preventing ingrown hairs. Rubbing alcohol is good for men with sensitive skin that is irritated by harsh chemical scents, which are added to most commercial aftershaves.

  Cleanse your razor with rubbing alcohol before shaving. This will kill any bacteria that may be scraped into the skin while shaving, causing infection. Wet the face and apply a moisturizing shaving cream. Shave in an upward motion, pulling the skin taut to avoid pulling hair out. The moisturizer will help soften and moisten skin that can get dried out from the rubbing alcohol.

  Rinse face with cool water and pat dry with a clean towel. The skin on the face is sensitive and prone to wrinkles. Patting rather than wiping the face will help avoid the pulling that can cause wrinkles. Pour a small amount of rubbing alcohol onto your hands and pat it on your face. Any stinging is a result of small cuts that can be avoided by keeping your razor sharp.

  Rinse your razor in rubbing alcohol again to kill bacteria. Consider applying another moisturizer to soothe skin, as rubbing alcohol has a drying effect. If you have sensitive skin, choose a lightweight, fragrance- and dye-free moisturizer.
