Planned Parenthood for Minors: Access, Consent & Requirements
In most states, a 15 year old can go to Planned Parenthood alone. There are a few exceptions, like South Carolina where a minor can only go to a Planned Parenthood with permission from a parent or guardian.
Planned Parenthood encourages clients under 18 to consult with a trusted adult before scheduling an appointment. However, there are many states in the country where minors have complete access to Planned Parenthood services, without parental consent or notification.
Planned Parenthood requires an ID and a Social Security number or Medicaid number (if you have one). You may also be asked for proof of residency, such as a driver's license or utility bill with your current address. If you are under the age of 18, Planned Parenthood may also require a parent or guardian to sign a consent form.
If you are concerned about your privacy, you can ask Planned Parenthood to keep your visit confidential. Planned Parenthood will not release your information to your parents or guardians without your permission, except in cases where there is a risk of harm to you or someone else.
For more information, you can visit the Planned Parenthood website or contact your local Planned Parenthood clinic.
