Effectively Freeze Head Lice: A Guide for Non-Washable Items
Lice are resilient. If you don't kill all of the bugs and their eggs, the infestation will likely return. Though medicine and hot water may be the easiest way to kill these pests, there are certain objects, such as toys or special stuffed animals, that cannot withstand treatment or washing with heat. Freezing can also eliminate lice.Things You'll Need
- Freezer bags
- Freezer
- Infected objects
Instructions
Collect the objects that may be infected with lice but cannot be washed in hot water. This can include certain toys, pillows and stuffed animals.
Place the objects in sealable freezer bags, such as Ziploc freezer bags. You must use bags that seal, or else you run the risk of releasing lice into your freezer and your food.
Seal the bags tightly and place in the freezer for at least 24 hours. Depending on the size of the infestation, you may need to freeze the objects for two to three days before all of the lice are killed.
