Group B Strep (GBS) Infection in Newborns: Risk Factors & Vulnerable Babies
Newborns who are most susceptible to GBS infection are:
- Premature babies (born before 37 weeks)
- Babies with low birth weight (less than 5.5 pounds)
- Babies whose mothers have a fever during labor
- Babies whose mothers have had a previous GBS infection
- Babies who have a weakened immune system
