Why do babies pass dark green colour stool?

Meconium

* Dark, greenish-black, sticky stool passed by newborns in the first few days of life

* Composed of cells, mucus, vernix caseosa, and swallowed amniotic fluid

* Sterile and odorless

* Usually passes within the first 48 hours of life
